The Four Clairs

Four Clairs

Have you heard of the four clairs? If you haven’t, don’t be too surprised. You may have heard about only one of the clairs which has had a lot of attention in tv shows and in movies. In this post there will be a brief overview of all four clairs. In the coming weeks we will be talking about the four clairs in more detail and how you can practice to make yourself stronger in the four clairs.

Clairvoyance – Clear seeing or clear sight
Clairvoyance has been depicted in many tv shows and movies. In Sixth Sense (movie) the main character is a little boy who can see the spirits of those who’ve already passed. In the Ghost Whisperer (tv show) Jennifer Love Hewitt played a psychic that could see and hear spirits. As you can guess clairvoyance is the ability to see visions, energy, spirits, and auras (with your physical eyes or inner sight). Most mediums and psychics have clairvoyance. Some may even see visions of the past or probable future.

Clairaudience – Clear hearing
Clairaudience is being able to hear your spirit guides or angels giving you guidance, and being able to hear spirits talk. As I mentioned above, in the Ghost Whisperer the main character is able to hear the ghosts when they speak to her. That is an example of clairaudience.  Some have also reported hearing music when there isn’t any playing, or ringing in the ears is sometimes spiritually attributed to getting a “download” or message from your guides. More on this in an upcoming post. Here’s an example of clairaudience I saw in a video by Vishen Lakhiani, the founder of Mindvalley. He mentions one day when he was driving on a highway and wasn’t paying particular attention. He suddenly heard a voice that told him to pay attention so he brought his attention back to the road. As he did he narrowly avoided being in car accident as the cars in front of him collided.

Clairsentience – Clear sensing or clear feeling
This is what’s usually called the gut feeling or reaction. We’ve all had that instant when we meet someone for the first time and not liked them but didn’t know why. This is an example of clairsentience. It’s happened to me where I sense that something might be “off” about a person I meet. Sometimes you get a good or bad vibe off someone, or even a place. If you’ve ever walked into a room where two people just had an argument but they’re not talking at that moment, you still can sense something’s happened. Clairsentients can also tell when someone is lying to them by sensing the other person’s energy.

Claircognizance – Clear knowing or inner knowing
Clear knowing is when information that you couldn’t logically know at the time just pops into your head. Some believe this could be information you’re accessing from a past lifetime, if it’s knowledge that can be learned. In my reading, an example I’ve come across of clear knowing is where a woman was told of an investment that an acquaintance of her had made. For no reason she just knew that the investment would not be successful. This is a kind of knowing deep inside, as certain as you know your name. She later heard that her acquaintance lost a large amount of money after the investment fell through.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this short overview of the four clairs. In the coming weeks we’ll go more in depth into each clair and ways to practice how you can get stronger in each clair. If you have any questions please comment below or email me here.

These mantras are also called seed sounds because of the resonance or frequency they carry. It’s type of sound healing using our own vocal chords. Traditionally these mantras were used in vedic meditation and kundalini yoga.

How to integrate the chakras into your life

If you’re the intuitive sort and are already familiar with chakras take a moment to tune in and feel which ones are out of alignment. Then chant the mantra for that chakra. If you’re short on time you could even do it in as little as 30 seconds on one breath. Inhale then exhale and chant the mantra. Repeat as many times as you have time for, or move on to the next chakra mantra.

If you want to make this a part of your routine, set aside some time in your day (or evening) to do mantra chanting. You can chant all of the mantras, one on each breath if you want to cover all your chakras. For example: inhale then exhale Lam, inhale then exhale Vam and so on.

For those more advanced in chakra practices you could even imagine the colour and location of the chakra while you chant. For example: inhale, imagine the colour red at the location of the root chakra then exhale Lam or Uh. Then continue on to the next chakra if you wish or have time to do so.

One way to start chanting mantras if you can’t set aside time, is to do it when you’re waiting for something. For example, if you’re heating up your food & it will take a few minutes, do some mantra chanting then. This one might sound funny, but some people read while on the toilet but you could chant some mantras instead.

There are so many ways to integrate chakra mantras into your life. Do what resonates with you and you can even be creative and make your own chakra practice.
